Michael Peter Spero
Michael Peter Spero, 68, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away on March 28, 2026. Born on February 25, 1958, in Montclair, New Jersey, Michael was a man whose warmth, humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Michael grew up and attended West Orange High School, where he developed his lifelong love of football, playing the sport throughout his school years. A proud West Orange resident for many years, he built deep roots in the community and formed countless friendships along the way. Michael had a remarkable ability to make a friend everywhere he went, drawing people in with his charming personality and infectious sense of humor.
After completing his education, Michael built a long and dedicated career with ShopRite, working at locations in both West Orange and Livingston, New Jersey. His years of service reflected the same dependability and good nature that defined every aspect of his life.
Michael married his beloved wife, Vanda, and together they built a loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Sports of all kinds held a special place in his heart, but football always came first. He was an avid reader of the daily newspaper, keeping himself well informed on current events. Michael was also a tremendous fan of classic film and television, with a particular love for the TV show Columbo and the films The Godfather and Goodfellas. His ability to recall and deliver all the best lines from memory was a source of joy and laughter for those around him.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Vanda Spero; his daughter, Michelle and her husband Joe Rossi, his beloved grandchildren Joey and Nico. And his son, Michael Jr; his mother, Dorothy Spero; his brother, Mark Spero; and his sister, Susan Spero Weinick. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter P. Spero.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dangler Funeral Home in West Orange, New Jersey. On Thursday, April 2, a blessing will be held at Dangler Funeral Home, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, New Jersey.
