Mr. Daborn was one of my favorite English teachers and I loved his class when I was at Pierrepont school. Besides remembering his admiration for John Dewey, I remember falling in love with Shakespeare when we read Romeo & Juliet. Specifically, I also remember how embarrassing it was to read the “let lips do what hands do” scene in front of the class! Sending peace to his family and my sincere condolences on his passing.

I was so saddened to hear the news about Don’s passing.
Our prayers are with Bernadette and their friends and family.
I attended Seton Hall with the “Musk” and wills consider him
a dear friend and one of the nicest people I have ever met.
We did lose touch with each other but reconnected recently.
I have many, many of fond memories of good times we
had together. May God bless him.

I am so sad to learn of the sudden passing of a beloved Teacher, Husband and Friend Donald Daborn. Bernadette Venditti Daborn My heart is broken for you, as I know how deeply you loved each other. Donald had just shared this article he wrote, after speaking with him about the similarities between nursing and teaching just this past August. We marveled at the unspoken and unmeasured qualities that make some one good at both of these professions. I will miss his poetry posts, and the curated poetry gifts he sent me every year on my birthday. What an impact he had on those who had the pleasure to know him. Sending much love to you and all who loved him. I wish I could be with you today, but will plan a trip soon to give you a big hug. All my love Amy Macdonald (Hartford) accordiandoor.wordpress.com/2014/05/04/whats-love-got-to-do-with-it/

It is with a saddened heart that I learned of Mr. Daborn's passing. He was my 7th grade teacher at Oliver Street School in Newark for the school year of 1981-1982. What an amazing, caring humane man. There are those teachers in the world that make an impact on a students life and place their mark on that life. It wasn't until about 5 years ago that I reconnected with him by accident. He remembered me and we spoke often. I will miss his daily postings and his reflective comments he would make that made you stop and go, hmmmm. Seeing the world through his eyes was truly inspirational. Rest easy and fly with the angels Mr. Daborn.

I have known Donald as my English tutor since the early of 2015 in the West Orange library where he volunteered as an ESL teacher.
I had been lucky enough to be his student for over 8 years. He was the best teacher I have ever met, always with patience for my English learning. His teaching made me more and more interested in English words and American culture. NY times has changed to be routine reading as my English improves with his help. I learned so many words from him and wrote them in yearly notebooks, unfortunately the one in 2023 was not finished yet.
As for this teaching, my husband Jackey and I got to know Bernadette as well. We all had changed to be family friends. We started to know he was a great and responsible husband, loved and cared families. He had been a positive person and always encouraged and helped others. Sage knowledge spreader. Good neighbor, true and loyal friend. He liked nature, sports, music, loved life and was kind to all people around him. He dedicated his whole life to teaching and lived with a colorful personal life. He fulfilled His Boy Scouts oath perfectly” Help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight”. He lived an ordinary life, but a very meaningful life!
I have been appreciating his teaching, but now I am so sad for no more chances to say Thank You for this great teaching; no more chances to get his wonderful explanation on my new English words; no more chances to learn his new daily quote post; no more chances to invite him for my Chinese dumplings.
My teacher, my friend, hope you are enjoying a new life in paradise, keep doing only the right things in there as you always do in here. Enjoy all new and old happiness created by yourself.
RIP! My best teacher, an English word genius, a great human being!
My deepest condolence to his entire families, especially Bernadette.

I was lucky enough to be one of Mr. Daborn’s students. He continues to be an influence on my life to this day. I still refer to keeping information in your brain either on your kitchen table or in your filing cabinet. There are definitely plenty of things that Mr. Daborn taught me that will always live in my filing cabinet like what John Dewey says or what a brigand is. Most importantly he showed me what an amazing teacher looked like. He was always there to lend an ear, no matter what kind of student you were. He was an amazing person and we were all truly lucky to have had him in our lives even if it was for a short time. My deepest condolences to his entire family and friends. He will never be forgotten, the great teachers never are.

It is with great sadness that I have received the news of Donald’s passing. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Bernadette and the entire Daborn family. In my role as an administrator in Pierrepont School, I came to know Donald as an outstanding educator. He was beloved by his students and held in the highest esteem by his peers. In school, he comported himself in a dignified and reserved manner. However, when that bell rang and his class began, Mr. Daborn transformed himself into an energetic, dynamo of knowledge, wisdom and wit. It was all about the students and his love for the English language. Donald was a gentle soul, a gentle man and an even better human being.
Rest in Peace
