Obituary of Beverly D. Monahan

Please share a memory of Beverly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beverly Dawn Monahan

Beverly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor. She passed peacefully while finishing her journey here on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Beverly was born September 17, 1931, in Nescopeck, PA, one of thirteen children, born to William Shultz & Margaret (Learn) Shultz.  When she was eight, the family moved to Queens, NY.  She graduated from Jamaica Vocational Girls School in the field of Cosmetology.  Rollerskating at a rink was a favorite activity & she was part of a group that actually danced on skates.  She met her first husband, Walter Harrison, at the rink.  They married, moved to NJ, and raised four children.

Beverly  worked for the County Board of Elections as a Senior Clerk for 20 years.  She was involved in a local theater group where she danced & sang as part of the ensemble.  As a seamstress, she was also called upon to sew costumes for the shows.  She was a girl scout & boy scout leader.  She was a  gracious hostess, who enjoyed preparing Sunday dinner for extended family & friends.  She always welcomed youth pastors to the family for meals & relaxation. She was a lifelong member of both the VFW & Elks organizations.  When her second husband, Albert Monahan, passed, she became an active member of the local Presbyterian Church (USA) where she served as a Deacon.  She volunteered & eventually ran the church Thrift Shop well into her 80s.

Health concerns had her moving to NY to live with family in 2020.  Her energy & giving spirit continued to flourish as she helped to serve on the weekly Backpack Program & WIC committee at The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Duanesburg (DRPC).

She is survived by her sister LaRue McNamara, daughter Lynn Hughes (Ed); daughter Doreen Harrison; son Keith Harrison; daughter Gayle Liggett (Larry); eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Reformed Presbyterian Church of Duanesburg, NY on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11am.

Interment will take place at Restland Memorial Cemetery on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s or Community Hospice of Albany County, NY
