Obituary of James William Chin
In Loving Memory of James W. Chin ("Jimmy")
James W. Chin, lovingly known as Jimmy to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 85, at Fallsview Nursing Home in Boonton, New Jersey.
Born on October 11, 1939, In Newton, New Jersey, Jimmy grew up in Orange, New Jersey. It was in Orange where he met his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline. Together they raised their daughters in Orange before moving to West Orange in 1982. In 2020, Jimmy and Jacqueline moved to Morris County to be closer to their family.
For 43 years, Jimmy proudly served as a letter carrier for the Orange Post Office, where he made many lasting friendships. His work was not only a career, but a true source of indentity and purpose throughout his life.
Outside of work, Jimmy was an avid- some would say obsessed- fisherman. He spent countless hours at North Jersey lakes and rivers and along the Jersey shore, always in search of his next great catch. Another of Jimmy's passions was magic; he perfected many card and other tricks that he joyfully performed for any audiences lucky enough to watch, especially delighting his grandchildren. Jimmy also passed along his love for cooking, especially Chinese cuisine, to his daughter Laura, who he taught all of his favorite recipes.
Jimmy served in the U.S. Army National Guard in 1963, being honorably discharged after suffering an injury.
Jimmy was always there to help family and friends with any project and quick with a joke (or one of his many pranks), bringing laughter and support to those around him.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Mon Koon Chin and Kim Hee Chin, brother Harry Chin and sister Ying Won Moy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline; his daughters Susan Chin and Laura Pflug; Laura's husband Brian and their three children - Brianna, Lianne, and Eric; his sisters Shui Hue and May Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Jimmy was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a beloved brother whose firm presence will be deeply missed.
Jimmy's legacy lives on in the love he gave, the stories he shared, and the many lives he touched. He will be missed beyond words and remembered always with love.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9th, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home in Boonton, New Jersey. A funeral mass will follow on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Montville, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Stroke Foundation at www.AmericanStroke.org, in honor of Jimmy's memory and in support of a cause close to his heart.
