Bernie was one of the great guys in my commo section in the NJ National Guard. I just remember his terrific sense of humor and so many laughs we had together. Of course I knew Gene, too. Good people. Sad to see Bernie go.

Bernie personified what neighborhood life was like in West Orange for years and years and years. A birthday never went by without receiving a card from him; we’d occasionally go out to dinner; we’d always play practical jokes on one another (he was notorious for leaving discarded toilets on friends’ lawns); during a three-legged race on July Fourth at Colgate Field, he fell and landed on my wife dislocating her shoulder—all the good things we’d laugh about much later. He gave us wonderful memories. He will forever be missed.

Too many memories - playing stickball on Fairmount Ave. growing up in Newark or celebrating like fools after winning yet another West Orange softball championship. I will miss you very much!

Joan , Theresa and Family,
Very sorry to hear about Bernie’s passing. He was such a great guy who was well liked by everyone he knew. A fixture as an usher with his brother Gene at 5:30 Masses at Lourdes, or playing or umpiring softball, Bernie was a ubiquitous West Orange presence. I would often see him visiting his Mother and sister on Woodside Terrace, always smiling and talking about the Bronx Bombers. He made West Orange a better place to grow up in as a kid. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

A great union brother . We were apprentices together in local 10. Back then as young journeyman we organized soft ball games with the officials and other like minded members. We played for a keg of beer. Bernie was a long time big Yankee fan and idolized hickey mantle.
A regular at our retirees luncheons . Always a happy go lucky guy and long time retirees club member. We will really miss Bernie
