“Bernie”

Bernie, age 80, passed away peacefully July 9, 2025.  Loving husband and father, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Bernie is pre-deceased by his parents Owen and Kathleen (nee Brennan) and his siblings Fran Glennon, Gene, Kathleen, John, and Peggy Ann.

Born in 1945, Bernie grew up in Newark where he graduated from Barringer High School.  After high school, Bernie joined the U.S. Army National Guard in West Orange.  After six (6) years of military service, he entered a five (5) year apprenticeship program in the Sheet Metal Workers Local 25 Building Trades Union and later became a Sheet Metal Draftsman. 

In September 1971, after Bernie married his wife Joan (nee Supczynski), they settled in West Orange, NJ where they raised their daughter Theresa.

Bernie played and umpired in the Men’s Softball League in West Orange for over forty years and many championships were won along the way.  Bernie loved to watch his favorite New York professional teams, the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks. He was also a Cleveland Browns fan. 

Bernie was long time parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes church and was Head Usher for over fifteen (15) years.  He coached Our Lady of Lourdes girls’ basketball and girls’ softball teams for many years.  Both Bernie and his bother Gene where Co-presidents of the Blue Lion Club at Immaculate Conception High School where both Theresa and her cousin Brian attended high school.  Bernie was a member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, and Our Lady of Lourdes Arts and Environmental Council. 

Visiting for Bernie will be held on Monday July 14, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday July 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave. in East Hanover.
