Obituary of Thomas H. Scheper
Thomas Harold Scheper
October 31, 1963 – August 14, 2025
Thomas Harold “Tommy” Scheper, affectionately known as “Shep,” 61, of West Orange, NJ, was called home on Thursday, August 14, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones and with his daughters by his side.
Born and raised in West Orange, Tommy was one of six children of the late Harry and Elizabeth Scheper. For more than 28 years, he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at Refresco in Wharton, NJ, where his dedication, humor, and generosity turned coworkers into lifelong friends he considered family.
Known for his kind heart, quick wit, and love of life, Tommy had a gift for bringing people together. He was the “life of the party” — whether hosting legendary “Lake Fest” gatherings on Lake Hopatcong, firing up the BBQ, riding quads, or sharing a meal filled with laughter. He loved classic rock, Ford Mustangs, NASCAR, trips to Las Vegas and Florida, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Tommy is survived by his children, Samantha Scheper, Katherine Scheper, and Nicholas Grillon; grandchildren Aidan Buckley, Nuala Conroy, Henry Grillon, and Maeve Grillon; and siblings Bonnie Scheper, Dennis Scheper, and Betsey Bradley. He will be deeply missed by countless friends who were truly part of his extended family.
Those who knew “Shep” will forever remember his laughter, his generosity, and the way he made everyone feel like family. His love will live on in the countless memories he created and the lives he touched.
A viewing will be held at Dangler Funeral Home in West Orange, NJ, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. His family extends heartfelt thanks for the many kind words, memories, and support shared during this difficult time. May we all honor his memory by living with the same joy, kindness, and love that he gave so freely.
