Obituary of Evelyn Claire Spero

Evelyn Spero 

Evelyn C. Spero, 88, died Sunday, December 28th at home with her family by her side. Evelyn was born May 29th 1937 in Orange, NJ, to Evelyn and Joseph DeZao.

Evelyn loved being out in the sun whether on the beach or just in the yard. She loved her family most of all and enjoyed spending time with them and making them laugh.

In 1955 she graduated from West Orange High School where she was a varsity cheerleader, she then went on to play softball and bowl for a team.

Evelyn married Ralph Spero on May 5th, 1957. They were blessed with seven children, Ralph, Gregory, Donna, Robert, Joseph, Andrew, and Jennifer. 

Evelyn worked as a secretary for a construction company up until her first grandchild was born when she devoted the rest of the time to her growing family. Evelyn was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known for anything she cooked especially Christmas Eve dinner and her famous chicken soup. Her hobbies included playing softball, bowling, tanning, listening to music and always being the happiest person in the room. 

Evelyn is survived by her children, Ralph and Jamie Spero, Donna and Steve Hodgson, Robert and Maria Spero, Joseph and Donna Spero, Jennifer and Glenn Wetzel and Arlene Masterson. Loving mother in law of Patricia and Kelly. Cherished grandmother of Gregory, Nicole, Victoria, Noelle, Gabrielle, Daniel, Samantha, Stephanie, Talia, Daniela, Alyssa, Andrew, Matthew, Emily and Evelyn, as well as eight great grandchildren and many, many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Evelyn and Joseph DeZao, her husband Ralph Spero, her brothers Joseph DeZao, Richard DeZao, and her sister Marilyn Petrucelli. Her children Gregory Spero and Andrew Spero. 

Lyn aka Nanny will always be known for her kindness and sunny disposition, as well as always caring for and doing anything she could for her family.

Visiting will be held on Tuesday December 30th 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM

Funeral Mass- Wednesday December 31st at 10:00 AM at Saint Rose of Lima, Ridgedale Ave. in East Hanover
