Obituary of Donald Arthur Reitmeyer
Donald Arthur Reitmeyer, age 72, of West Orange, passed away on January 15, 2026.
Don was born on June 24, 1953, in Orange, New Jersey. In his early years he could often be found coaching his four children in various sports and enjoying family trips to Seaside beach. A true craftsman, Don spent nearly five decades as a roofer foreman, mentoring many and leaving a lasting impact.
Don is survived by his children, Christopher, Brian, Kaitie, and Kimberly; their spouses, Elizabeth, Julio, and Rafe; and the mother of his children, Kathy Kohaut-Reitmeyer. His grandchildren (who knew him best as Papa): Laila, Julio, Jaida, Adriana, Mia, Sienna, Londyn, and Easton. His brothers Kenneth and John and sister LeeAnn. He was predeceased by his mother, Barbara McManus, and his father, Franny McManus.
Our dad will be remembered for his laughter that filled a room, sarcastic jokes, and his love of cooking while whistling and singing along to Elvis songs. His specialties included meatballs and stuffed mushrooms, and he always made the best pancakes. He was the biggest Yankees fan ever (but only if they were winning). Known for his hands-on skills, he especially loved decorating during the Christmas season even winning local awards for his displays.
Don was a proud member of the West Orange Elks, where he served as Exalted Ruler for five years and generously devoted his time and service to the community.
We love you so much Dad, and will miss you every day. You worked so hard your entire life, you can rest peacefully now.
A celebration of life mass will be held at St. Joseph Church in West Orange on Wednesday, January 21st at 11:00 AM.
