Obituary of Vincent A Caria
Vincent “Sonny” Caria, a loving, husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa—affectionately known as “Big Vin”—passed away on April 12, 2026.
He was born on December 15, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to Angelina Assante and Antonio Caria. Vincent worked as a longshoreman on Pier 11 in Red Hook. During those years, he cherished the simple routine of frequent lunches with his mom - a reflection of his deep love for family. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Mary Anne DeFelice, and they shared many devoted years together until her passing in January 2020. He cared for her lovingly during her battle with cancer, a true testament to the depth of his devotion—a love that remained with him always.
He is survived by his children, Angela and Stephen, and Michele and Sal; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael, Samantha and Nick, Salvatore and Ariana, Annie and Klev, and Mikey; and his great-grandchildren, Vinny, CeCe, Klever, Sonny, Serafina, and Angelo.
Vincent was known for his quiet, easygoing nature. He had a dry sense of humor, which brought smiles in unexpected ways. He took a genuine interest in his children and grandchildren, making each of them feel loved and important. He especially cherished spending time with his great-grandchildren, delighting in their jokes and silly stories. Vinny treasured staying connected with family, often calling his brother and sisters just to catch up. He enjoyed reading, watching Westerns, cheering on the Mets and had a lifelong love of cars.
A memorial service will be held at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home in Boonton, New Jersey, on April 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He will be deeply missed-forever loved and remembered by all who knew him.
