Michael Francis Checkawhiz, 92

Michael F. Checkawhiz, 92, of West Orange passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

 Visiting will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange 340 Main Street, West Orange from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s name to: Tribute Program,St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Michael was born in Archbald Pennsylvania enlisting in the Navy and serving proudly from 1943 to 1946 during WWII. Michael was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 4 stars, Philippine Medal with 2 stars and the C. O. Commendation. Michael loved attending his Naval Reunions. After returning from service Michael was a machinist working for Bates Manufacturing in Hackettstown.

Mike was the loving husband of the late Angelina (nee DeRiggi) Checkawhiz. Loving father of JoAnn Brennan, Phyllis Calabrese and Michele Carroll. Cherished brother of Helen Rossi and many late brothers and sisters. Survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
