Mary Alice was a colleague at IBM and I am just devastated to learn about her passing. Mary Alice was an unceasingly positive person and a joy with whom to work. She was always willing to help, advise, listen, and provide beneficial feedback. What a loss for everyone who knew her! I hope her family takes comfort knowing what a special and respected person she was, and the impact she had on so many.

I was so sad to hear of Mary Alice's passing. She was my classmate for 9 years at Our Lady of Lourdes in West Orange. She was such a kind and wonderful person.
I was amazed when I saw her again at the Our Lady of Lourdes reunion in 2019 or 2020. It was such a great time.
I am praying for her family. May God's bless and peace be with you.

Ray, Diana, Julia, and Alice,
Here's the comforting words Mary-Alice wrote to me in her own words in a condolence card at the passing of my beloved sister Madelaine (2017) which echo our thoughts for you:
Inside...
"We hope you feel our extra love at this most difficult time. Sometimes it's the simple everyday things that bring tears (such as songs, memories), so bittersweet at the moment, but will turn to joy...We are blessed with so many wonderful memories, and are thankful that God has blessed us with having her in our lives."
The Card itself she chose:
"THE JOURNEY HOME
There's a path that leads to a turn in the road, and we each must travel there,
Where the Creator waits to take us home, to shelter of Divine care...
Where happiness and peace and joy replace the tears of pain,
And our loved ones rest in the arms of God,
to sweetly live again"....
The Greeting itself:
"Praying God will hold you close, and gently ease your sorrow,
heal your broken heart,
and strengthen you for every new tomorrow."
We seek to honor Mary-Alice's faith, hope and Love by Mar's prayer of gratitude and surrender which leads to serenity:
"Thank you God for your blessings...Your will be done"

We came to know Mary-Alice through my niece Jennifer and her husband Craig Torres. My first impression was also a lasting one. Mary-Alice was perhaps the sweetest and kindest person one would ever meet. She always greeted you with kind words and a smile that made you feel welcome. We are very saddened to know that the Torres and McCauley families have lost a ray of sunshine in their lives and pray they are comforted by the many wonderful memories.
Our sincere condolences,
Holly and Ken Bossart and Family

Mary-Alice was my childhood best friend. I’m not sure exactly when and how we met (maybe at the pool) but I believe I was 9 years old. We played softball at the PAL field behind her house and took lessons and swam on the swimming team at the Livingston YMCA. We also played basketball in front of my house. I remember that she could dribble up to me in front of the basket and shoot the ball right through the hoop even as I was trying to block her shot. We enjoyed many visits to Verona Park where we would swing on the swings and talk about the challenges and adventures of our lives. My dad remembers me talking about “Me and Mary-Alice,” which he condensed into a nickname. I remember getting pizza at Johnny’s and her mother and brother Danny taking us on the subway to watch a Mets game where Tom Seaver broke a pitching record. I also recall going on some “double dates” with Mary-Alice and Ray, including a Lionel Richie concert which was an especially good time and dancing to the Pointer Sisters at the Turtle Brook Inn. Some of my best memories were trips to the Shore. I remember that Mary-Alice liked the sausage and pepper sandwiches and that we once were hot and thirsty and stopped at all the lemonade stands at Seaside Heights. Another time we shot baskets at a stand and won a bunch of colorful stuffed snakes. I also recall riding the log flume and then running up the boardwalk, feeling the coolness from the water that had splashed us. I remember feeling so alive and happy in that moment.
While we did not see each other nearly as often over the past decades, we did keep in touch. And the times when we got together it always felt like we could pick up where we had left off – that we were truly “forever friends.” I feel a similar sense of closeness with her mom (Alice), Ray, Diana and Julia.
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Mary-Alice’s illness and glad to have had an opportunity to visit her (and Diana, Julia and Ray), albeit briefly last week. I wish we could have spent a day at the shore and swung on the swings at Verona Park one more time or maybe gone snorkeling here in Florida. I recall some years ago our long-time friend Joe Indano saying to me, “Isn’t Mary-Alice the Best?” I would say today, “Yes. She was the Best.” I will remember her down-to-Earth warm spirit, her sense of humor, her generosity and her kindness. She was accomplished, yet so unpretentious and fun. And she loved her family and put them first. While I am sad that she is no longer with us here on this Earth, I know that her bright spirit lives on through her family and can live on through all of us whose lives she has touched.

Here’s some wonderful memories from her best California friend, Joe Indano. Oh my God, Mar and I have so many fun memories going back to forever! I love remembering all those “Great Adventure”s we’ve shared, like flying through a couple of barn walls together in New England ! Or being at the shore with Sue Oesterle and getting locked in those changing rooms at closing!
And one of my favorites is that of dancing up a storm with Mary-Alice, Debbie, Ellen & Gale...while it was “raining men, hallelujah!”; and meeting “DJ Ray”, biking on Martha’s Vineyard with him, and their beautiful wedding sacrament at Lourdes, as well as the Christening of their daughters!
Then there’s Casino slots with the joy of her Mom always winning; and remembering enjoying the beautiful sites and sounds of the Ocean, especially from her Atlantic City Resort. Not to mention her ever extravagant generosity all along life’s journey, including my fall foliage visit with her in 2018! There was always such joy and love in life because of Mary-Alice ! What a shining diamond and starlight she still is to us!
Throughout her life, even in this latest challenge, she modeled for me how every challenge is an opportunity for surrender and gratitude. And how, like our Blessed Mother, surrender and gratitude keep us in Christ, and Christ in us, grounded in Love & Grace. Surrender leads to deeper serenity, deeper serenity and ultimate union with the Presence of the Blessed Trinity.
Even now, she invites us to slow dance with her and her loved ones, the slow dance of holding on and letting go, holding on and letting go, letting go. I can hear Mary-Alice singing with my beloved sister Madelaine. You are not alone, The Body of Christ is with you forever.
So, I join in prayer with each of you now, Mary-Alice’s prayer, the surrender prayer of Mary’s Magnificat : ..."Thank you God for your blessings, Your will be done".
Mar, you are eternally loved, so very much loved by us.
Thanks for being my "Forever Friend". I love you bunches! Joe

Omg I’m devastated. Mary Alice is like a big sis to me. I called her over the holidays and she didn’t mention cancer. I suspect she didn’t want to upset me. I lost my mom to cancer. Oh… but I wish I could have hugged her one more time. To Ray and the girls - your mom glowed when she spoke of you. You were her greatest pride and joy. Sending my love to you all.

Oh my Dear Mary-Alice you are gone too soon. I will miss our talks - they were real and always left me feeling a smile.
To Ray, Diana, Julia, Mom - this loss is heartbreaking. You know better than anyone that beautiful, irrepressible soul that touched so many of us. I was so fortunate to work alongside her, and am blessed beyond measure to call her friend. I wish you peace.
