Tom and I first met the McAndrew family when our daughter Lisa started dating Ed. We shared our experiences of families and relationships. Alice and Mick invited us into their family with openness and love. My experience increased when my daughter Amy and I took a trip to Ireland with the McAndrews. We shared many laughs and memories of that time. Mick and Ed were the designated drivers (stick shift only). I remember that at every traffic circle we came to we would shout "go left" so there wouldn't be any "crazy American" comments. As we traveled those narrow Irish roads, Mick often made comments about the wild life "look at all those d... sheep". He easily made friends with every pub bartender we met.
We will miss him. There will always be an empty seat and tearful hearts at our family gatherings now, but ahh, the laughter and memories too.

There are no words to say how very sad we are. I am very honored and proud to have called Mickey a beloved friend. His wisdom, humor, kindness and humility resonated in his every action. He was proud of his sons, his work and his beloved firehouse. He cooked for his firefighters and loved every minute of it. I remember watching news stories of burning buildings in East Orange and calling my Alice,,just to check in,, scared of how she may answer the phone. Mickey had a heart and a laugh that was larger than life. He cared deeply and you knew he loved you, his eyes twinkled and he would buy me groceries that he found and thought I would like,he loved Produce Pete and Donaldson's corn. Made the best rare steak ever as well as Irish Soda Bread and pizza. He loved his children and grandchildren and did all he could to support them. We are all better people for knowing and loving him. Most of all he loved his Bird. Bird, we are right here for you. We love you forever. Mary Ann and Ciro

Mr. McAndrew was like a father to all of us children who had the privilege of knowing him in the neighborhood. He always welcomed us with a warm smile. He built an amazing tree house for his children and the neighborhood kids to enjoy, and created my first arcade experience in his basement. He has impacted and enhanced so many childhoods and the lives of others. Many of us are honored to have been graced by his presence. He has left a tremendous and rich legacy behind. My condolences to his family. May he rest in Eternal Peace. Andrea (Evans) Kowalski
