Obituary of Charles Andrew Harsley

Charles “Charly” Harsley, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on July 16th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Jersey City to the late Ernest and Helen Harsley, Charly was raised in Kearny and graduated from Kearny High School. He attended Cooper Union School of Art and the University of Oklahoma. After getting married in 1979, Charly and Melody moved to Boonton in 1982 to raise their family. He worked as a Maintenance Manager of Operations for the USPS International Bulk Mail Center in Jersey City since 1973. A favorite pastime of Charly’s, cooking was a passion which provided love and comfort to so many. A true “renaissance man,” Charly was a skillful artist and photographer. He also enjoyed gardening, shooting pool with his son, Kurt and spending time with all of his family and friends. An avid mechanic and Harley biker, Charly was a proud exalted ruler of the Boonton Elks Lodge #1405 and devoted volunteer. A man of many trades, he will be sorely missed.

Charly was the beloved husband of 42 years to Melody (nee: Pierson) Harsley. Loving father of Christopher Harsley and his wife Angela of Monroe, North Carolina, Lauren Chien and her husband Michael of Secaucus, and Kurt Harsley and his wife Kristen of Boonton. Cherished twin of Susan Harsley. Dearest brother of Dennis Harsley and his wife Melissa, Thomas Harsley, the late Kenneth Harsley and the late Nancy Harsley. A great joy in Charly’s life were his two grandchildren, Alexa and Liam Harsley. Charly is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 24th from 1:00-5:00pm at the Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street in Boonton with a memorial service at 4:30pm. Masks are optional. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
