Obituary of James C Condon

Jim Condon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Monday August 1, 2022 at the age of 89. Jim was born March 6th, 1933 to James and Violet (Carter) Condon in Bayonne NJ.  Graduated Bayonne High school in 1951. Served in the US Army inducted in 1953 -1955. Jim began his career working for PSE&G in 1955 and retired in 1996 as a senior supervisor /planner after 41 + yrs. of service.

He was a member of The St. John’s of The Oranges Holy Name Society, a lector and parish council member for many years. He was involved in various aspects and levels of West Orange PAL and recreation sports programs. Member of the West Orange Tory Corner Softball Team and Championship.  Jim was also a member of Seton Hall Prep Fathers Club and the Mount St Dominick’s Parents Association. He was the recipient of the Arthur Williams Service award, The Thomas A. Reynolds award for his service to Seton Hall Prep, inducted in 1995 to the Seton Hall Prep Hall of Fame and received an honorary degree from Seton Hall Prep in 1995 as well. Gave of his time at St. John’s Soup Kitchen, Newark NJ.

 Family, God and Country was Jim’s motto in life. He and Eileen would spend countless hours traveling and transporting and watching their children and grandchildren games, plays, and concerts. He cherished family vacations, especially Lavallette, with the McNulty’s. Grandpa, loved life and cherished family and friends. Jim truly enjoyed his Irish heritage and was beloved by his numerous in laws. (Dad NEVER liked to use the term In-laws, he would just say my Family)

Jim will be tremendously missed by his immediate and extended family and countless friends.

Jim was married to the love and center of his life Eileen (Kearns) on March 3rd, 1962. Devoted father of James (Jimmy) wife Anna, John (Jackie) wife Pauline, Mary Catherine Callaghan husband Joseph, Eileen Kohaut husband Matthew, Michael wife Bernadette. Cherished grandfather to- Jason, Dana, Louis, Henry (Harry), Michael, Helena (Nellie), Kerry (deceased) Catherine, Sarah, Shane, Jacqueline, Bernadette, Shannon, Matthew, Daniel, William, Kate, Thomas, Lucas, Caroline and James and four great grandchildren.

Survived by his siblings; Margaret Regan, Elsie Buban, John (Leona) Condon, Barbara McNulty, Violet (Teddy) Stray, Patricia Cain, Rita Kiernan. Predeceased by dear sisters, Catherine Condon, Alice Fitzgerald and Florence Murphy. Jim has many loving nieces and nephews.

Although not technically born during the, ”Greatest generation” time period. James (Jimmy) Condon made his “Generation Greater”, for being part of this world and sharing himself with us all.

Visitation will be held Thursday August 4th, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday August 5th, 2022 at 11:00 am at St Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Ave, West Orange , NJ.

Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery East Hanover, NJ.
