Obituary of Alice McCauley

Alice Smith McCauley, a lifelong resident of West Orange, NJ, and affectionately known to many as “Gram,” went peacefully home to Our Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the age of 97.  Her kind, gentle spirit and her charitable and compassionate nature have been inspirational to many and will be remembered by all.  Alice worked as a Secretary for Prudential Insurance and a Receptionist at West Orange’s Town and Campus before retiring in the 1990’s.  She continued her long-history of charitable work and volunteer service well into her retirement years, a history that included decades as a Board Member of the West Orange Community House, an election worker at the Washington School, a member of the Rosary Altar Society at Our Lady of Lourdes, R.C. Church and numerous other charitable endeavors.  For her Church service, Alice was recognized as a Marnell Award recipient at Our Lady of Lourdes.

  Alice was predeceased by her daughter Mary-Alice Torres (1962-2021) and survived by her son Daniel McCauley, his wife Regina and grandchildren Julie Janes, Theodore Derloshon, Jr., six great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.  Alice is also survived by her son-in-law Raymond Torres, Jr. and granddaughters Diana and Julia Torres.  Her warm smile and positive outlook on life will also be missed by many other relatives and friends.

  A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St., West Orange, NJ 07052.    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, One Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange, NJ, or to the West Orange Community House, 239 Main Street, West Orange, NJ 07052.
