Alex Caprio

Alex Caprio, 94, of West Orange passed away on December 4, 2022 at the age of 94.

He was employed by the West Orange Health Department for 40 years. He was The Registrar of Vital Statistics and Sanitary Inspector.  Alex proudly served four years in the United States Air Force S/SCT, and for two years in the National Guard.

Alex was the beloved husband of 66 years of the late Rose Caprio (2020). Devoted father of Patricia Caprio Kaufman and her husband Allen, Alex Caprio and the late John Caprio.

Alex spent many years participating with The Mayors Program for the Uniquely Gifted. In 1995 West Orange honored him by naming the Animal Shelter after him in recognition of his many years of assistance with Animal Control. Alex spent 42 years part time with the Essex County Vocational School, teaching Food Safety and Sanitation. He truly enjoyed teaching and frequently would say “I don’t tell people what to do, I show them the way.” This was never more evident than in the kindness he showed to everyone.

Visiting will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. At The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange, followed by The Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Ave. in West Orange. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Park Memorial Mausoleum in Union.
