Obituary of John Thomas Michelsen

John “Mike” Michelsen (March 16, 1937-December 23, 2022)

We are sad to announce the passing of John Michelsen at the age of 85, following a month-long hospitalization.  He passed peacefully on Friday, December 23^rd.

John was born in March 1937, in New York, NY. The middle of three sons born to Charles Joseph Michelsen & Helen (Gladding) Michelsen. 

Following high school, John began an over 45-year career in the aeronautical field as an airline jet mechanic, first for Pan-American airlines, and concluding with Delta Airlines. He was very proud of his long career & workmanship, and forged many lifelong friendships with his colleagues.

He was an avid coin collector, world traveler, football fan, and loved to talk about the weather. John will always be remembered for his love for his grandkids, his generous heart, and his quick wit.  He was a resident of Bay Shore, NY for over 50 years, up until his passing.

John is preceded into death by his wife Mildred “Peachy” Michelsen, his father Charles Joseph Michelsen, his mother Helen Michelsen, his brother Charles “Chuck” Michelsen, and his grandson Jacob John Michelsen. He is survived by his son Matthew John, daughter-in-law Nancy, grandchildren Matthew Enrique & Abigail Rose, his brother Kenneth & his wife Merridee, and sister-in-law Marion “Chip” Michelsen. 

Visiting will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 W Main St, Boonton, NJ 07005.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 910 Birch Street Boonton NJ, followed by burial at Pinelawn Memorial Park 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale NY.
