Obituary of Huguette Rivera
Huguette Rivera, 84 of Randolph Township, NJ (formerly of Boonton) passed away on March 5, 2023.
Huguette (L’Ecuyer) was born in Valleyfield, Quebec Canada where she grew up until her teenage years when she moved to Boonton, NJ with her parents and younger brother. She was quickly given the nickname “Frenchie” and that’s what everyone called her since they couldn’t pronounce her name Huguette (Hue - get). She met her husband Ralph, married 63 years, establishing themselves in Boonton to raise their family.
When their children were grown, they moved to Wharton for a short time and ultimately retired to Albrightsville, PA. They later moved back to the NJ area to be closer to family. Huguette was a devoted mother to her 4 children and a homemaker for most of her life. She worked part-time in retail when her children were grown and spent time caring for and enjoying her grandchildren over the years. She loved knitting and embroidery, but was a sharp card player - she didn’t lose often. She became a US Citizen in January of 1994.
Huguette was predeceased in death by her parents Henri and Berthe (Charron) L’Ecuyer, sisters Margot Pregent, Jeannine Martel, Rita Charlebois and brother Roger L’Ecuyer, their spouses and granddaughter Gabrielle Campbell. Huguette is survived by her loving husband Ralph R. Rivera and children Isabel (Rivera) Campbell her husband John Campbell; Shirley (Rivera) Meier her husband Jeff Meier; Debbie (Rivera) Moore her fiancé Alfred Goedeke; and James Rivera. She was blessed with grandchildren Stephanie Moore, Jennifer Campbell, Matthew Campbell, Alicia Moore, Julia Campbell, Paige Campbell, Kaitlyn Meier and Emily Meier; and many, many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Sunrise of Randolph where she spent the last 6 ½ years receiving excellent care and was given yet another nickname “Hugie”. She spent time crafting, cooking, attending programs and many afternoons in the garden on sunny days.
Thanks also to Ennoble Care, Hospice for your care and compassion - we are forever grateful!
Please join us as we celebrate her life on Friday, March 10th from 4-8 pm at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home in Boonton. The funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 11th at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, also in Boonton. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
Huguette was loved by all that knew her. Although she was living with progressive Dementia over the past couple of years, she always had a big smile that brightened up everyone’s day as she quietly interacted with the caring staff and her family and friends. Her smile and her laughter will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the the Epilepsy Foundation, epilepsy.com or Dementia Society of America, dementiasociety.org
