John J. Mooney, 80

John J. Mooney, 80, of Irvington NJ passes away peacefully on April 15, 2023. He was born on June 19, 1942 in Newark NJ.

Visiting will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s name to; Center for Hope Hospice, 111 Dehart Place, Elizabeth NJ 07202.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange.

Growing up he played in the Drum and Bugle Corps for St. Joseph’s Grammar School for many years. John graduated from Barringer High School in Newark. He was a lifelong Yankee fan as well as a St. Louis Cardinals, NY Giants, and Cleveland Browns fan. John played for 20 years on the West Orange men’s softball league and was a big fan of the NJ lottery.

John was a longtime employee of Tasty Bread in Newark. He was a member of the Bakery and Confectionary Workers Local 50. He also worked for Albert Paper of Hillside, where he retired from in 2014.

John was the beloved son of the late Owen and Kathleen (nee Brennan) Mooney. Devoted father of Sean Mooney, Ryan Mooney, and Deborah Duarte. Loving brother of Bernard Mooney. Cherished grandfather of Dylan and Jessica. John was predeceased by his brother Eugene Mooney, and his sisters; Francis Glennon, Kathleen Mooney and Peggy Ann Mooney.
