Obituary of Edward J. Glennon
Edward J. Glennon passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024 in Madison NJ after a short illness. He was born on February 20, 1934 in Boonton NJ, to the late Margaret (Steinhauser) and the late John Glennon. Ed was a graduate of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and Boonton High School class of 1952 where he was the captain of his Varsity “Bombers” Basketball Team.
He served honorably in the US Army in the Korean War and then upon his return and discharge, he worked in Boonton as a postman for the US Postal Service. In later years, Ed retired from the Postal Service and was the Co-owner of Harmony Liquors in Del’s Village, Boonton, NJ.
Ed was a member of the Walter J. Barret Council 1954 of the Knights of Columbus and an active parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He had a wonderful passion for sports and was a baseball coach for the Boonton boys little league for many years as his children grew up. Ed was an avid Notre Dame fan! He never missed a game on TV and attended quite a few games in person on the beautiful campus in South Bend Indiana. One could always hear his chant of….”Go Irish!”
Ed and his wife Barbara were known to travel by car across this great country and visited almost every state. They traveled to Ireland together exploring the “old country” and researching their Irish roots.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara as well as his children, Kathleen Fichtner (Edward), Patrick Glennon, Mary Pascarella (Philip), John Sheehan (Suzanne), William Sheehan (Andrea), Dr. Barbara Dillon (Bruce) and Bernadette Sheehan (Matthew).He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Shawn Fichtner, Theresa Mingacci, Clare Longino, Catherine Pascarella, Trista Londato, Amanda Sheehan, Daniel Sheehan, Matthew Sheehan, Patrick Dillon, Brendan Dillon. Additionally Ed is survived by 9 Great-Grandchildren and many friends and neighbors in Denville and Boonton.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 W. Main Street Boonton NJ from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Boonton, NJ at 10:30 am followed by interment at St Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Veteran’s Association of America.
