Obituary of Shelia Laura Stager
Visiting for Shelia will be held on Friday June 7, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with the Funeral Services at 6:00 PM.
Shelia Laura Stager (Matteson), 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 31, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.
Shelia was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Clara Ann (Sanders) and Norman Matteson on August 3, 1942. She is a Parsippany High School Class of 1959 graduate. By 1962, she graduated from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing. She dedicated 41 years to St. Clare’s Hospital of Denville as a Registered Nurse.
Shelia and William Stager married on August 4, 1962, and started a family with their three children, Angie, Shelia, and Ruth Ann. The Stagers purchased their home in July 1973 in Boonton Township, where she remained a lifelong resident.
In her life after retiring, Shelia enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Winning wasn’t guaranteed, but a Taylor- Ham sandwich and a root beer was on order while attending Bingo at the Wayne PAL with Kathy each Thursday evening. Otherwise, a quick escape to Beach Haven, Long Beach Island, with her best friend Ellie, was always much enjoyed.
She is predeceased by her parents, Norman and Clara Matteson, her husband of 48 years, William Stager, and her daughter, Ruth Ann Stager.
She is survived by her daughters, Angie and her husband Al Palmer, and Shelia Becker and her partner Tim Amsden. “G-ma” to her four cherished grandchildren, Kelly Palmer Force and her husband Bill, Lexi Thomson (Becker) and her husband Matt, Taylor Herring (Becker) and her husband Arthur, and Samantha Becker, as well as three great grandchildren, James, Peyton, and Tegan and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street in Boonton on Friday June 7, 2024 from 3-7PM and to join the family at 6PM that evening for her funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a scholarship fund named in her honor at https://bold.org/funds/shelia-matteson-stager-memorial-scholarship-fund/
