Obituary of Deborah Lee Scott
Deborah Lee Scott
Deborah Lee Scott (Debbie/Mama/Nana), 74, entered rest with her Lord Jesus Christ on July 20, 2024, after a life of generous and joyful service for His Kingdom.
Debbie was born on August 27, 1949 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Harold and Aletha Seltzer, moved to Maplewood, NJ in 1961, and graduated from Columbia High School in 1967. Debbie earned her B.A. in Special Education from Cain College in 1971. She attended Emmaus Bible School in Chicago, IL in 1972, where she met Dave Scott, whom she married September 8, 1973.
Debbie spent her life, with Dave, in tireless service to the Lord, working alongside him in children’s home ministry, in three different Gospel Rescue Missions on the East Coast (Goodwill Mission in Newark, NJ, Yonkers Gospel Mission in NYC, and Market Street Mission in Morristown, NJ); and, principally, as a resourceful homemaker and loving mother to their three sons. Debbie invested herself entirely in the lives and needs of those around her, caring for neighbors and strangers alike, visiting nursing homes and widows at home, volunteering at her boys’ school, leading and teaching in church, organizing women’s ministries, prayerfully supporting missionaries and Christian workers, and encouraging hundreds through her sticker-saturated mail ministry.
Debbie’s legacy of gratuitous kindness and contagious mirth will animate the souls of those she leaves behind for countless days ahead. She leaves behind her visionary husband, Dave Scott I (married 51 years 9.8.24), three grateful sons George David II (Sarah), Adam Craig (Tracy), and Seth Lee (Jen), nine grandchildren, her loving brother Craig Seltzer (Diane), siblings Christy, Holly, and Ryan, with their spouses and seven children, and countless others who considered Debbie their sister in Christ and close ally in life. Debbie will be sorely missed by so many.
Debbie’s memorial will be held at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Essex Fells, NJ, on August 17, 2024, at 1pm. Donations in her honor can be made to the Market Street Mission in Morristown, NJ - www.marketstreet.org
1 Peter 5:10-11 - And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
