Obituary of Edward W. Bogart
Edward Willits Bogart
Born 11/13/36
Deceased 9/10/24
87 years old
Ed Bogart or Ed B as we affectionately liked to call him passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, September 10th, at home surrounded by family.
Ed was born in Montclair, NJ to Stanley R. Bogart and Florence Hayes. He had 3 sisters Dorothy Fitzgerald, Florence Bogart and Lorraine Miscia; all deceased.
After receiving a Bachelor’s degree from St. Peters and a Master’s degree from Montclair State he served his country as a specialist in the 250th Signal Battalion of the Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged in October 1963.
He married the love of his life Mary Pat Brennan on May 26, 1962. They settled in Glen Ridge, NJ and had 3 children: Lisa Bogart, Katie Bogart (husband Ted Yurgel) and Jeffrey Bogart (wife Jennifer). He had 1 grandson Owen Bogart who is currently studying at the Pennsylvania State University.
Ed was a devout parishioner at St Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield, NJ for over 60 years. He served in recent years as the Saturday Night Usher and was deeply involved in the church. He also served as the Parish Council President. After Saturday night mass, it was date night for Mary Pat and Ed. They would enjoy dinner out at some of their favorite restaurants in town or just get take out.
In his professional life Ed was a High School Math teacher before becoming a Real Estate Broker and appraiser for the Joseph P. Brennan Agency and later Prudential Degnan Properties’. In his “retirement” he decided to work for UPS as a logistics manager. He enjoyed his time at UPS and was ultimately forced to retire during the 2020 pandemic.
Ed was a member of the Friendly Son’s of the Shillelagh where he served as the treasurer. Like the rest of the family Ed looked forward to the high holy days of the St. Patrick’s Day Season. He especially enjoyed marching in the annual West Orange St Patrick’s day parade. Ed also served as Vice Chair of the Glen Ridge Democratic Party and President of the Glen Ridge Music Parent’s Association.
Ed enjoyed summers at the Jersey shore and could often be found at the 2nd Avenue Beach in Seaside Park reading a good book. When the kids were young, he would spend hours in the water with them teaching them to swim, bogie board and surf in the Ocean. He could also be found canoeing or fishing on the Barnegat Bay. After a day at the beach, he would tune into the radio to hear his beloved New York Yankees. We will miss Ed’s dry sense of humor and of course his keen ability to come up with a good pun at any moment.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ed’s memory to the St John’s Soup Kitchen, Newark New Jersey or The Legacy Fund at St Thomas the Apostle Church, Bloomfield, NJ.
Visiting for Ed will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday September 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield NJ.
Our family would like to especially thank my father’s care givers from Job Haines and the Hospice nurses who were there for him during his last few months.
