Obituary of Robert Anthony Gentile
Robert Gentile
Robert (Bob) A. Gentile was born on June 26, 1935 and passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Anthony M. Gentile and Alice B. Gentile (Guenter). He was raised in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey and was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York, where he met his wife, Marion. Bob proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States National Guard. He was employed by BASF Corporation in Parsippany, New Jersey as a Manager of Corporate Employment.
Bob was known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, and he shared these skills in service to others. He was active in the community as a member of the Boonton Board of Education and served on the board of the Boonton Parking Authority. He was also a devout Catholic who embodied the principles of humility, compassion, and service. As an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Boonton, he volunteered as a lector, usher and member of the finance committee.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marion Gentile (Augostini), three daughters, and nine grandchildren. He was the devoted father of Carol Bresticker and her husband David, Ann Cox and her husband Patrick, and Jacqueline Moffitt. He was known lovingly as “Pa” to his nine grandchildren: Teresa, Daniel and his wife Lauren, Maria, and Julia Bresticker; Joseph and Jesse Cox; and Anna, Erin, and Brian Moffitt. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ernest and sister Carolyn.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street in Boonton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 12:00 PM at St.Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, 215 Hill Street in Boonton.
Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Butler, New Jersey.
