Kathleen was born on November 14, 1925, the first child of Michael and Delia (Kelly) Carroll, who were both immigrants from Ireland. While a toddler, she won a contest as the Most Beautiful Baby of the Oranges & Maplewood. Kathleen attended Our Lady of Lourdes elementary school in West Orange and graduated from West Orange High School. Upon graduation, she began her career at Automatic Switch, which was originally based in Orange and later moved to Florham Park. Kathleen worked there for 38 years before retiring in 1981. A reliable worker, and extremely punctual (10 minutes early was on time for her), she was a valued employee of the company. During her working years and into retirement, Kathleen was always on the go. She frequently mentioned that she would much rather drop everything and run out to meet someone for lunch or dinner instead of stay home and do housework.
Her love of travel took her to many exotic international destinations including and African safari, China and Hong Kong, Canada, Europe, Russia, the Bahamas, Egypt, Jordan, Israel and South America. She traveled extensively in the US as well, including landing on a glacier by helicopter in Alaska.
During her life, she was active in many organizations including Our Lady of Lourdes Rosary Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, West Orange Seniors, and the Democratic Committee.
Kathleen was devoutly religious. She often walked to daily Mass and made regular novenas. She was a continual supporter of numerous Catholic missions and charities including Our Lady of Lourdes Church as well as St. John's Church in Orange. Known for her quick wit, Kathleen was a good friend to many people; she was always willing to give a ride, run an errand, watch a child, or have a conversation with any friend who needed it.
Kathleen is survived by her sister Patricia Moore and husband Eugene, and her nephews and nieces: Michael Koep, Lawrence Koep, Stephen Koep and wife Katie, Kevin Koep, Brenda Scully and husband Kevin, Kathleen Burwell, Kevin Moore and wife Valarie, and Patrick Moore and wife Amanda. She is also survived by her grand-nephews and nieces: Nicholas, Madalyn, Andrew, Morgan, Justin, Ellie, Kevin, Sean, Murphy and Margaret and several cousins. She is also survived by many good friends who were very attentive to her with frequent phone calls, visits, well wishes and prayers.
