Obituary of Florence Virginia Wharton

Florence "Virginia" Wharton, 103 Florence "Virginia" Wharton (maiden name - Sherman), 103, of Oakdale, CT., formerly of West Orange, NJ., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at her home in CT. Funeral Services will be held in celebration of her life on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange, at 12:00 Noon. Prior to the services, there will be visiting from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The committal service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Rosedale Cemetery, 408 Orange Road in Montclair at 12:00 PM noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter 400 Morris Ave. Suite 251 Denville, NJ 07834-1365. Virginia was born and raised in West Orange, and lived there for 90 years before moving to Oakdale, CT 13 years ago. She was an Administrative Assistant working for the West Orange Board of Education, retiring in 1977. Virginia loved to travel, with Banff, Lake Louise being her favorite vacation spot. She was an avid reader and loved to swim, especially in the ocean off the Jersey Shore. The pride and joy of her life was caring for her son William. Virginia was predeceased in 1993 by her beloved husband, Herbert Austin Wharton. She was the devoted mother of William Herbert Wharton, a cherished grandmother of 3, and a loving great-grandmother of 5.
