Obituary of Edward James Fairchild
Edward James Fairchild, Jr., 84
Edward James Fairchild Jr., 84, of West Orange passed away on Tuesday April 19, 2016.
Visiting will be held on Friday April 22, 2016 from 3 to 7 PM. at the Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Eddie's name to: Our Lady of Lourdes Church 1 Eagle Rock Avenue West Orange, NJ 07052.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 23, 2016 at 9:00 AM at the Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com.
Eddie was born in Orange and raised in West Orange. Eddie was a clerk with the Orange Post Office. Mr. Fairchild proudly served in the United States Army as Corporal during the Korean War. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Fairchild was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange, where he was baptized and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Grammar School class of 1945, and then graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair class of 1949. He also served as an Altar server, and a member of the Holy Name Society. Eddie was honored with the 2016 Marnell Award, and just recently as Holy Name Man of the Year. He served as part of the Funeral Mass Ministry at the Altar as well. He invested many years and hours to help create and maintain the Lourdes Heritage Room.
Eddie was an avid sports lover his entire life. He was involved in CYO basketball and baseball. He enjoyed golf, bowling, basketball and well into his later years, softball. He followed baseball, football and basketball on TV.
Eddie was the beloved son of the late Helen and Edward Sr., loving brother of Margaret Centrella and the late Mary Cammon and Helen Wilson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
