I was sad to hear about Dr. Quartaro... She was the chair, and Dr. Blake (someone else I miss 30 years later!) the 2nd to the Social Work Department when I graduated in the 90s. She was an amazing woman who introduced me to Clementine oranges (She'd bring them in right before Fall Finals) and I still have the beautiful gold and amethyst pin she gave me after she'd downsized her jewelry collection. I know I wasn't the only life she touched, but she still made me feel special. If there's anything after we shuffle off this mortal coil, she's in a place as wonderful as she was...

Just heard the sad news now of the passing of Dr. Quartaro. She was a wonderful professor and Chairwoman of the Social Work Department. I was very fortunate to have had the privilege of spending many hours in her classes. Dr. Quartaro was extremely committed to the social work profession, her family and the students she mentored. I have the utmost respect and admiration for her and I will always remember how hard she worked at everything she did. I will miss her.

Dr. Quartaro was a wonderful, wise and warm teacher and mentor. Her efforts to push me as a student and social worker made me a better and more caring human being, and her belief in me is something I still draw on almost 12 years later to give me strength in my personal and professional life. What a dedicated professor. She will be missed.

Sending heartfelt condolences to the family on the loss of this incredible woman. Emma was the first person outside of my school/program to send an email welcoming me to the University seventeen years ago. I was fortunate to sit on the Geriatric Advisory Council for a number of years and to be asked by Emma to speak at a geriatric certificate award ceremony.
She was a woman of substance, humor, intellect and kind beyond measure. I will miss her presence and wisdom. May she find eternal rest.

Emma, You have earned the well deserved rest and peace of someone who has worked tirelessly for people everywhere and for untold number of students. You have given so much of yourself personally and professionally to so many of us.
I pleasantly recall the years that I worked with you at Seton Hall and in South Orange and the spirit and wisdom you shared with students, social workers, fellow faculty and friends.
With fond memories,
Marian

It is with a very heavy heart that I extend my condolences and sadness in this tribute to Prof. Emma's family and son, Peter. It was barely about two weeks I spoke with my professor, and came over to sit with her before her next class. She always has the kind of smiles that melts your heart and makes all your problems go away....
Little did I know that it was the last time I was going to see her alive, even though she assured me she would make time for us to get together and talk longer soon. Just when I said good bye to her and that I look forward to her email or call her soon.
I again, reminded her not to forget the present I got her on my spring break from Germany. Death oh death, why do you not give any of us notice in advance that you are coming so soon... I had so many things to discuss and talk to Prof. Emma about, who will I share my thoughts with now and when am I ever going to see you again and the smiles that beams all over your face when you try to make me feel good about myself. I will keep your friendship and memory alive in my heart. Catherine!

My most sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Quartaro. As a young and inexperienced student at SHU she wisely tried her best to guide me towards Social Work. She was my first social work professor. unfortunately, I was head strong and thought I knew better. I graduated as a BA in Psychology, against her guidance. I returned several years later to inform her how mistaken I was to. it listen to her wise words. I became a Social Worker. She was right all along. Her passion, knowledge, and strength/advocacy have always remained as my beacons for excellence. Thank you Dr. Quartaro for your guidance. May you rest in eternal peace.

Dr. Quartaro was my first Social Work professor at Seton Hall; I was the only male SW student in her class. I remember how she helped me choose to follow my passion for Social Work and most of all encouraged me to lead the Freshman Social Work Club at Seton Hall. Dr. Quartaro thanked me for running the club in a beautiful letter, which I still have. She was such an inspiration to me and I never forgot how she guided me towards furthering my education in the field. I am currently a Director of Social Work for many years thanks to you. I know you helped so many students but I just wanted to take the time to once again thank you for all you have done for me and for everyone.
